Assateague Island

Located off the Atlantic coast of southern Maryland and eastern Virginia, Assateague Island is a beautiful place to visit. The island is about 37 miles long and is known for being home to beautiful wild horses that are the size of ponies. It is believed they ended up on the island after escaping a Spanish shipwreck off the coast centuries ago. Assetague also serves as a bird sanctuary. Snow geese, herons, egrets, sandpipers, and osprey are among the 300 bird species found on the beaches, sand dunes, salt marshes, bays, and woodlands. Other wildlife includes deer, red foxes, and horseshoe crabs. So, if you love outdoor scenery, Assateague Island is the right place for you.
